News

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins told the Associated Press in January that the band is possibly releasing an album in 2011. The Foo Fighters have fifteen or so songs that they are working on, and they are album material.

This comes as great news for fans of the band, which has been rocking out for fifteen years now. They’ve definitely made an impact on the music scene as we know it, and have been influential in the creations of many other artists. Whether or not the songs will be “traditional” or whether they will be a “redefinition” for the paradigm remains to be seen.

The band is still in the beginning stages of creating the album, but it is still something to get excited about. Learn To Fly is a personal favorite song of mine, and is something that I regularly sing raucously out loud in the car. …Or when I’m playing Rock Band and I want to impress some people with my incredible talent.

Along with a welcomed buzz of an early spring, Groundhog Day also brought with it some not-so-great news regarding the White Stripes; after four years of not recording any new albums or music, the band has decided to break up for good. Though this fact may not have been a surprise to some, it is the permanency of the dissolution that has many of the band’s fans feeling down. They have garnered a huge amount of support in past years, and have arguably created some of the most influential music of the last decade.

The duo of once-married Jack and Meg White took to their website yesterday to formally announce that not only would they no longer be recording new music, they would also not be performing live. Their reasoning was that they basically wanted to preserve the band’s legacy on a high note and leave their fans with the beauty of the past six albums that they have created.

Though many are pretty upset about the break up, the group has been praised for their refraining from touring and “cashing-in” on the musical fame that they have left as a duo. Fortunately, fans will be able to remember Jack and Meg White with their last studio release in 2007, “Icky Thump,” which many have argued is their best collaboration to date.

The Sundance Film Festival 2011 has officially set up shop and will be gracing Park City with its presence until January 30. Obviously, this is an event that is packed with creative expression and groundbreaking cinematic works, but many do not realize that it is also a medium for the listening of talented musicians.

Sundance ASCAP Music Cafe is returning this year as the main musical venue where both emerging and well-known artists, solo acts and bands, come to showcase their talents and gain new fan support. Any festival credential holders that are 21 and older who pay a visit to Park City can drop into the Cafe and have a listen at the many different acts that will be performing throughout the week.

The place opens at 1:30 PM and closes around 6, so make sure to get there early to avoid missing your favorites. Visitors should know that the venue has a limited capacity and will have to be closed off when this number is reached.

ASCAP Music Cafe has welcomed artists like Damien Rice, Rachel Yamagata, Gin Blossoms, and Rosi Golan in past years, and is always a place to showcase some of the best new talent. Artists that will be present throughout the week at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival are Guster, The Secret Sisters, Danko Jones, Josh Ritter, Tin Hat, and St. Vincent, along with many others.

Make your way to the Festival in Park City; you might just discover your new favorite group or musician!
